Assessment Options for ESL in Illinois

Standardized assessment tools for adult ESL pre- and post-testing approved by the state of Illinois are:

• BEST Literacy
• BEST Plus
• CASAS Life and Work Series (Reading)

Training is required for BEST Plus and CASAS testers, and strongly recommended for BEST Literacy testers.

The ALRC provides training for all three tests and notifies adult education program administrators of upcoming training dates.
