The ESL Instructional Staff Professional Pathway was developed by the ICCB and the PD Network to provide a professional development pathway for ESL instructors to consider for attainment of state-recognized credentials.

ESL Standards Proficient Instructor Training
This training enables qualified ESL instructors to attain the state-recognized credential of ESL Standards Proficient Instructor. The ICCB requires all ESL instructors to complete ESL Standards Proficient Instructor Training. This training uses a flipped hybrid format and consists of an online course, a day of face-to-face training, and a culminating assignment. Upon approval of the culminating assignment, training participants are issued a certificate with 14 PD hours together with a state-recognized credential certificate from the ICCB.

Application to Attend Training

ESL Specialist Training
This training is the first step toward earning the ICCB ESL Specialist Credential. ESL Specialist Training uses a flipped hybrid format consisting of an online course, a live webinar, an in-person workshop, and two assignments. Upon completion of this training, participants receive a certificate of attendance with 14 hours of professional development.

Note that the ICCB ESL Specialist Credential has additional requirements beyond the ESL Specialist Training. See the ESL Specialist Credential Tracking Form for more information. The ICCB ESL Specialist Credential certificate will be issued when the applicant has submitted all required documentation. Persons wishing to pursue the credential must submit the required documentation within two years of the in-person workshop for their cohort.
