One-on-One Technical Assistance through an EBRI Virtual Classroom Observation

Instructors who would like to receive technical assistance in developing competency in delivering evidence-based reading instruction may choose to participate in a virtual classroom observation.

This virtual observation allows a STAR Trainer to provide feedback on reading content and teaching methodologies to both new and experienced EBRI instructors. DAISI data shows a positive correlation between EBRI instruction and increased student level gains. The ALRC is offering this one-on-one technical assistance service to help support Illinois EBRI classroom instructors, thereby improving students’ reading skills in alphabetics, fluency, vocabulary or comprehension.

To participate in a virtual classroom observation, instructors will need to be videotaped while teaching reading in their classroom. The virtual observation process is solely between the ALRC and the instructor, unless the instructor requests that feedback be shared with someone else in their program. The documents listed below provide details and forms needed for the observation process:

The STAR Trainer reviewing the video clips of reading lessons will be using the following charts to provide feedback to instructors. These charts also serve to provide helpful hints to the instructor:

To get started with the Virtual Observation process download the Request for a Video Observation Form above, complete, and email to JKoffend@cntrmail.org.
